Socioeconomic Factors Associated with Cardiovascular Disease

Objective
To determine if factors such as: level of education, race, gender, age, and income,  influence or are involved in the development of CVD.
Hypothesis
The lower your SES the higher the incidence of CVD development. SES refers to level of education, income, race, age, and gender. Low SES refers to below average education and income, which is also associated with race, age and gender
Results
African americans have a higher risk of developing CVD than any other group. Hispanics and whites share similar trends in CVD development. White males aged 65+ have the highest risk of CVD development. In all races and genders, the more education you have their is a lower incindence of CVD. In all socioeconomic cicumsstances, males are more at risk than females in developing CVD, however after the age of 55, females have an increased risk of developing CVD.
Discussion
Cardiovascular disease is a broad term for diseases associated with heart and vascular system. These diseases range from heart failure and strokes to hypertension. There are two main causes "umbrella" causes for cardiovascular disease, these are behavioral factors and socioeconomic factors. Behavioral factors include smoking, obesity, and poor diet, on the other hand, socioeconomic facotors deal with race, gender, income, level of education, and other factors that define ones socioeconomic status.
From this data it is evident that the incidence if CVD is greater for those who not only have behavioral risk factors but also are either African-American, aged 65+, poorly educated and a low level of income. One explanation for this is that those with lower SES can not afford healthcare and thus can not take the preventative measures neccesary for treating or dealing with CVD.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that those with low SES have a higher risk of developing CVD. In order to lower the incidence of CVD in low SES populations, preventative measures ought to be taken through education and more affordable healthcare. Moreover, more research ought to be done to determine why African Americans are at a much higher risk of developing CVD when all things are equal.
