Objective:
My academic objective is to earn a PhD in Pharmacology. I hope to pursue
a career in the pharmaceutical industry or become involved in academic
research and/or teaching. I plan on using a degree in pharmacology to provide
the medical industry therapeutic methods for those who suffer from health-related
disorders.

§ I was involved in the National Honor Society and California Scholarship
Fund.
§ I was president of the French Honor Society, vice-president of the
International club, and treasurer of
the French club.
§ I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class.

CA Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
§ I enrolled in a class for 6 months whereupon I learned the skills
necessary to be a CNA.
These skills included: Recording of vital signs, insertion and removal
of IV lines, calculating
input and output, EKG, wound care and basic needs.
1998 - 2000 University of California Riverside, CA Biomedical
Sciences Program
§ I was fortunate to have been chosen to participate in the highly
competitive joint program with
UCR/UCLA-Medical School, in which 24 out of 300 students are chosen to
finish a B.S and
MD in seven years.
§ Due to the rigorous course load, competition, and work load I transferred
to another university.

§ I graduated with a GPA of a 3.658/4.000 from the school of Biological
Sciences.
§ I was on the Deans honor list for over 2 years.

§ I am currently pursuing a B.A in Sociology from the School of Social
Sciences at UCI.
§ I am a currently involved in the sociology honors program at UCI.
§ I am pursuing this degree because I personally feel that while pursuing
the sciences is my passion,

view of the world around us,
not just in scientific terms, but also in the context of society.

§ I was awarded $700 for an undergraduate research project entitled
“The effects of Simulated Microgravity on the Tyrosine Kinase pathways
in Rat carotid
and Femoral arteries”.
§ The data was presented at an Undergraduate Research Symposium, involving
a poster presentation.

SURP Fellow- University of California, Irvine
§ I was awarded $3000 for an undergraduate research project entitled
“The Alterations in the
MAP-Kinase pathways in vessels of the Upper body subjected to simulated
microgravity.”
§ The data was presented at an undergraduate research seminar, and
will also be presented in
June 2003 at the UCI- Research symposium.

Sociology
Honors
§ Since I also majored in Sociology, I was able to be part of Honors
in Sociology because
my UCI GPA exceeded 3.2, and my sociology GPA exceeded 3.5.
§An honor in sociology requires extra course work and attendance to
various colloquiums in sociology.
In June 2003, I will be graduating with honors in Sociology.

Research experience:
2000 - Present Pharmacology/UCI College of Medicine Irvine,
CAResearch Assistant
I have worked for two years in the department of Pharmacology under
the supervision of Dr. Ralph E Purdy. I have been actively involved in
the field of cardiovascular pharmacology, specifically on a NASA grant
project dealing with the affect on vascular contractility when vessels
are subjected to simulated microgravity. I have worked on two independent
projects, which will eventually lead to an official publication in a scientific
journal.
Techniques that I have used are:
§ Tissue bath analysis via concentration response curves.
§ BCA protein content assay as well as analysis using Softmax-Pro.
§ Western blot analysis. § Vessel cleaning, handling, dissection
and harvesting (shock freezing).
§ Stimulation of vascular tissue using NE.§ Data processing using
ANOVA, Cricket and
Microsoft Excel and a variety of other programs.
Extracurricular activities:
Activities that I enjoy include photography (nature and abstract),
painting (abstract) and playing the piano or keyboard. I also enjoy playing
and taking care of my two dogs, lovebird, and 30 goldfish.
I am a member of the UCI Chancellor’s club, dedicated to promoting
academic excellence, campus events and building relationships with the
community, alumni, faculty and staff to financially support UCI.
Recreationally, I enjoy playing badminton, tennis, racquetball, swimming
and hiking.
Volunteer experience:
I have volunteered my services for local high school students who are planning
on taking the
advanced placement exams in biology, chemistry and European history, who
also need a little
extra tutoring.
I have actively been involved in the Organic chemistry department in regards
to tutoring. I have been
a tutor for basic organic chemistry since September 2001 till present.
I have been an active member of the Iranian Student Organization in southern
california, organizing
fundraising events to support and fund education for the children in Afghanistan.
Currently we
have raised approximately $5500 through donations from the Orange and LA
county community.
I volunteered at Saddleback Hospital in the Oncology ward for 6 months.
My exposure to cancer
patients and the medical field is what motivated me initially to pursue
medical science.
